Natalie Warne

Natalie started her activist career in 2008 when she took a gap year after high school to volunteer for an non-profit doing advocacy work. Her work put her at the forefront of a dynamic movement. Since then she's traveled around the world inspiring and encouraging other young people to live a life of service and activism, give a Ted talk that has been viewed over 1 million times, cumulatively, and specifically focused on youth education. Now she has turned her attention to a new organization, Deedly.com, that combines cutting edge, high interest video content, technology, activism work, and real-time impact on 21st century issues. She will give an overview of the problem this technology and curriculum solve, and how Deedly is uniquely engaging teachers to lead this new movement.

Session Description

Deedly.com is an organization that combines cutting edge, high interest video content, technology, activism work, and real-time impact on 21st century issues. The presenter will give an overview of the problem this technology and curriculum solve, and how Deedly is uniquely engaging teachers to lead this new movement. This session will show a few short videos to show the audience members a sample of the content, give a demonstration, and talk about the opportunities for teachers to lead. Participants should come with questions, comments, and their own experience to share.

What will educators learn and be able to do at the end of the session?

In this session, we will attempt to discuss the disconnect between authentic engagement and civic discourse, and the classroom, and then invite teachers to be a part of developing the tool they wish they had. With live demos of the technology and framework, this session hopes to engage and invite educators to think about Civic, Social Studies, and Social Emotional learning in a new way.

Session Resources

My Deedly Session Title - Authentic Activism Aligned to Civic Standards - Demo and Invitation to Collaborate at the iEARN Conference
These are the powerpoint slides for our Deedly session "Authentic Activism Aligned to Civic Standards - Demo and Invitation to Collaborate at the iEARN Conference". In our session we will also be presenting a live demo for teachers on how to use our education tool. That Demo is not included in this powerpoint because it is through our online website platform that we will be displaying on the screen during the presentation.
